A traditional balayage is a type of hair-coloring technique in which a stylist hand-paints the highlights. This creates a look even more natural, with depth and dimension. It truly resembles the effects of the sun.
Because there are so many techniques available when coloring hair, the stylist needs to decide which to use in achieving the look you want. Sometimes we combine balayage with highlights, meaning we freehand and foil.
With that being said, many times I will do a combination of techniques. Meaning I may do teasy lights with foils or foils with a balayage. I even use babylights which are very fine thin highlights. It all depends on the end look I am going for.
In general, balayage does take a bit longer than foil because the stylist goes through piece by piece to customize the color. This highlighting technique is also a bit more expensive. The process can be more expensive because it takes more thought and creative placement. Also, your hair’s length and density play a role in time and price.
