My step by step detangling guide will keep your hair healthy and stop the damage, not to mention the pain. If you dread combing or brushing your tangles out, keep reading for my professional tips. I know my way around a knot or two!
While getting through the tangles can be a pain, it can also be very damaging. Breakage from detangling causes frizzy fly-away hair. Over time, no amount of product will conceal the damage. So let’s learn a healthier way to get the knots out!
First and foremost, start at the bottom and work your way up to the roots. Work with small sections and be gentle. This applies to wet or dry hair.
Before you even attempt to shampoo, brush your locks till there are no knots! Once you shampoo, apply a leave-in conditioner. I recommend Organic Colour Systems Aqua Boost Leave-In. If you want a lighter product, I recommend OCS Status Quo Protect.
Next, use a paddle brush, a brush made for detangling or a wide-toothed pick or comb. When hair is wet, it is stretched as far as it can stretch. Limit the pulling or tugging because it will only snap and break your hair. Just work with small sections and be gentle.
Believe it or not, this process will become second nature. So be patient and over time you will see the frizzy fly-aways grow out. And you will have healthy shiny hair!
