Do you think of blondes when you think of balayage or foilayage? That isn’t always the case. Look at this guest where I did cool red foilayage!
There are many ways to achieve a “lived-in” look. Because Organic Colour Systems only offers a traditional lightener, I use foils to encapsulate the moisture. Open-air balayage uses a clay lightener. Clay lighteners create a shell and encapsulate the moisture. The results will be the same with either medium.
First, we decide the look you want. Next, I will determine which technique best suits the desired results. Keep in mind, there are tons of ways to get a specific lived-in look. Some stylists use foils and some don’t. Sometimes we need multiple sessions to achieve a certain look. And sometimes a root smudge is necessary. For any of these techniques, you should plan on spending three-plus hours in the salon.

Balayage or Foilayage
- Both are merely a technique to achieve a lived-in look
- One is open air and on is with foils
- Sometimes both techniques will get the look you want
